1 month... and a sweet shoppe!

Happy 1 month of marriage to us!
Long story short, I cannot believe it has already been a month.

So, blog-wise, let's celebrate by doing another wedding details post!
For this post... I want to focus on the refreshments at the reception.

We had a Sweet Shoppe!

And, as the sign says, everything was home-baked by me, Grandma, Mom, and a few others!

The fabric pennants along the top of the tent was such a cute idea!

Just a small sample of stuff we had.
And you don't see it here, but we also had ice cream that we were handing out
by the dish load. I had some sugar-happy guests, that's for sure!

AND we couldn't leave out the sparkling lemonade! Whether it was sparkling or not,
lemonade basically became the staple drink of all my wedding activities.

And here's the cute little cake!
We didn't need anything too big. I mean... you saw all the sweets in that tent, right?!

Shove it in!!! (Kidding... we were very nice to each other.)

I'll cover all other aspects of the reception in another post. Truth be told, I'm still waiting on a bucket-load of pictures from my Dad... so I'm just making do with what I have right now.

Douglas: This past month has been the best of my life. Thank you for understanding me so well, for being so patient, for loving me unconditionally, and for all the countless times you make me laugh. I'm so glad I get to spend so much time and make so many great memories with my best friend. I love you SO MUCH!

Here's to a happy first month... and here's to many more to come!

A little camping getaway

I hadn't been camping for a long time... like, a couple years... until this weekend!
Doug and I went up in a nearby canyon with several other couples and we had a little Friday night getaway. It was pretty nice to be outdoors, I'm not gonna lie.

Plus, isn't our tent just so cute?

Perfect for two people.
We made some pretty tasty tin-foil dinners.
Meat and veggies, baby!!!

And the scenery was fairly nice... if you don't count the other campsites nearby...

The point is, we were out in nature.
There was a stream nearby, so there was a constant soothing sound of water.
And it gave me the wonderful opportunity to procrastinate my homework!

I wish I had more pictures... but my phone mysteriously died while we were up there (it had nearly full battery when we left home!) and our camera was also dead, so you don't get to see our s'mores, Doug's charcoal-black burnt marshmallows, or our breakfast burritos in the morning...
Oh well!

The KKK... the GOOD one!

So here are some highlights of the past couple days:

We made homemade pizza on Sunday.
It's times like these when I love having a husband who served his mission in Italy.
He made the dough and rolled it out and stuff... I helped make the sauce and grate cheese and arrange the toppings though, so I didn't feel completely useless. He just did all the muscle-work!

And it turned out GOOD!

We don't have a pizza pan yet, but jelly roll sheets work just as well!

I was in a "just cheese" sort of mood.

We used a stove grate for a hot pad (LOL)!
And yes, my apron has cherries on it.
And my dress is homemade.
Darling.
Walmart... you can never go wrong with fabric there.

I started summer term classes on Monday. I'm taking 2 English classes - American Lit and British Lit - and there is so much reading! But at least I get to read Persuasion! Oh Jane Austen...
However, both of my classes are 2 hours long each and are back-to-back, and in the same classroom too! So basically, I descend these daunting stairs into the basement of the JFSB and do not see the light of day until I emerge 4 hours later.

Okay, maybe that's not completely true... I get breaks, so I can leave that classroom, even if only for a short time. I find the classes very engaging so far though, so... that's a bright spot.

My English Teaching minor is now also officially declared. Once the summer term is over, I'll be halfway done with it already!

Doug and I ran by Macy's today to grab a couple food items, and I FINALLY got him to buy a King Kong Kone. Also known as the KKK. (Actually, they're not known as that... I just call them that myself). If you don't remember, I posted about these beauties before here.

The first words that came out of his mouth when the cashier turned around with that giant stack of ice-cream was "There's no way!"
The picture doesn't even do them justice.

And yet... he ate it all in one go.
Just like I did the first time.
And the second time.
This was my third time getting this monster, and I ate it all in one sitting once again.

Oh memories... Donnie, if you read this post, you know what I'm talking about.

Pizza and burgers and fries! Oh my!!!

Back on Thursday this week, the owner of Terra Mia Ristorante put together a little shin-dig from 9-12 for people who had served their missions in Italy. Basically, it was $5 per person for all-you-can-eat Italian pizza.

I had been sick that day, and the day before... and yet I woke up from my early evening nap feeling refreshed enough to ask Doug if we could still go over there. It was only 9:10 or so... and he was immediately ready to go out the door when I said I was feeling rather better.

I hoped my stomach could take it...
And it did.
And oh, how glad I was.

Yum.      SOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo good.

^ That has ham and whatnot on it... yum. It was my last piece, I forgot to
take pictures until this point! So I didn't get the plain cheese or the one that
had chicken and mushrooms on it, or any of the others...
But you get the idea.

Yum yum, Italian pizza! And I think that was the first time I've experienced dipping the crust in the oil... pretty good, not gonna lie. I would definitely eat at Terra Mia again!

Pst, Utah people... go there for your birthday and you get a free gelato! Or when you go to eat there, "check in" on facebook and show them (either with your phone or a print-out) and you'll get a free bruschetta!

THEN
Yesterday we went to eat at a new place that's just opened down on University Avenue, close to Center street in Provo: Nellie's Diner!

It's a cute little 50s getaway.

The blue tape on the jukebox says "not working yet. sorry!"
A working jukebox would really add a nice touch to the place, I hope they'll actually get it to work!

The fries were really good, and the burgers were huge! Well... I got a chicken sandwich, not a burger, but still... and they serve breakfast all day too! Next time, I'm getting a breakfast menu item.

2 other suggestions:
Doug said they needed more pictures on the walls. Now that I think about it, I agree. Crowd the walls!!!!
MY suggestion is that all the employees learn how to roller skate.
That would pretty much make it perfect.

Maybe someday.

Bridal Showers

I was somehow lucky enough to end up with 3 different bridal showers... which is fine by me, quite frankly.

I had one here in Provo, put together by my lovely mother- and sisters-in-law. I, unfortunately, did not get any pictures of the event... but there were plenty of friends, fun games, and lots of food! And all held conveniently in the lobby of my old apartment complex. It was fun, having so many friends right there in one place.

Once I was back in Fresno, my aunt Shelby put together a bridal shower for family members and friends to attend. It was great... like everything Shelby puts together. She took some pictures! So I borrowed them off facebook :)

This stuff is ah.maze.ing. SO good!
Centerpiece on one of the tables: Take a picture frame
and put cutesy stuff in the middle of it, like
fake flowers, bird cages, etc
Cupcakes!

Take-home favors
And here's what she did with the dining room area

Let's not forget friends!
I wish I had gotten pictures with everyone...
These are only a few... and yes, I know these pics are on facebook already

Yes... I allowed them to tie big bows on my head using the classic
purple Bed Bath & Beyond ribbons

AAAAaaaaand finally, I had a 3rd bridal shower that was put together by and for people in my church... old Primary leaders, Young Women's leaders, people I've known for years growing up... and I regret not getting pictures of it, the shower was very cute. Held outside, more lemonade (everyone seems to know that I love it), it was super windy...
BUT
I did get a picture of this awesome cake, made specially with me in mind.
Because I love chocolate.
Thank you, Hibbard family. Jacee knows me too well.

Isn't that a ridiculous amount of chocolate?! 2 layer chocolate cake with chocolate icing, Hershey's chocolate around the whole outside, and completely covered with M&Ms on top. Ridiculous.

Needless to say, it was very good.

Just settling in

Before I go into more detailed wedding stuff, let's take a look at the here-and-now.

Douglas and I are getting all situated at our new apartment! It's a nice, cute little place with a lot of storage space. I think it's perfect for a couple just starting their life out together. Who needs a huge place when there's only 2 of you?!

Plus, we have a balcony. And this is the view we have from it.

It's a nice, green backyard... wouldn't you say?
The lawn is perfect for games, picnics, etc... There's volleyball & root beer floats every Thursday evening!

And it'll be so pretty during the fall and when it's all covered in snow.
Plus there's a great view of the mountains.

Doug and I have a lot of stuff... thanks to everyone's support at our reception and open house.
In fact, the only major item we are lacking is a table and chairs We plan on getting a set soon.
Until then though, we just sit on our couch.
OR...
We invite another couple over and do this:

Sitting on folded up blanket-poufs eating pasta with homemade sauce, several different types of homemade bread, pink lemonade, brownies, and ice cream.
Yeah.
Enough said.

Life is all coming together.
Doug just got a full time 40-hour-a-week job for the remainder of the summer.
I have a couple classes for summer term (which starts next week).
Our apartment is feeling more and more like home every day.
Plus we just bought Dance Central 2.
Party time! :D
